Everyone knows the great houses of Catalan Modernisme, but what about the houses of Noucentisme? How were they? What distinguishes them? Masó and the other noucentista architects received numerous commissions for the construction of single-family homes in many towns and cities in Catalonia, both urban residences and villas and summer towers. The exhibition presents a selection of eighteen houses to show the extent to which the political and cultural substratum that shaped the Noucentista movement also created a certain architecture and domestic interior decoration at the service of the new Catalan bourgeoisie. During the two decades of the heyday of the Noucentisme, the architecture of single-family houses was also a manifestation of the modernization drive that advocated this ideology, in order to bring Catalonia closer to the trends of architectural renewal that were taking place everywhere in Europe.
