Thursday, May 14, 2026

The exhibition "Grey, Blue and Green Girona" is part of the programme of activities organised by the City Council under the slogan "Girona, Year 2100. Girona, 2,100 Years"

Today, Girona unveiled the full programme that will conclude the activities organised around the slogan "Girona, Year 2100. Girona, 2,100 Years". Until the end of the year, conferences and debates, exhibitions, urban itineraries and guided tours will take place in various spaces in the Old Quarter in order to reflect on and build the future based on where we come from. The initiative will reach its climax during the autumn with the exhibition "Girona 2,100 Years: 21 Objects for 21 Centuries" and the congress "Bimillenary of Girona".

The activities begin this afternoon with the talk "Rethinking Girona Now and Forever: Plans and Projects for the Future", an open conversation between the Mayor of Girona, Lluc Salellas i Vilar, and the coordinator of the Ecological Transition and Urban Area Department of Girona City Council, Maria Sisternas i Tusell. The event will take place at 6 p.m. at the College of Architects of Catalonia in Girona (COAC).

The programme also includes urban itineraries and guided tours that will allow visitors to discover emblematic spaces such as the Cathedral, the Arab Baths and Sant Pere de Galligants, while exploring their uses throughout history. These activities will be complemented by the exceptional opening of archives and museum storage centres across the city.

On the one hand, two guided visits will be held at Casa Masó focusing on the exhibition "Grey, Blue and Green Girona. City Plans and Projects, 1850-2050", which can be visited until 19 September at the venue itself. The first visit will take place on Thursday 21 May at 6 p.m., during which the book of the same title will also be presented, and the second will take place on Thursday 11 June at 6 p.m. Both visits will be led by architect Manel Bosch. On the other hand, on Thursday 28 May at 6 p.m., the round table discussion "Designing Resilience. Experiences of Open Space Plans and Projects in Girona in a Changing Context" has been scheduled at the College of Technical Architecture of Girona, located in La Punxa. The event will feature landscape architect Martí Franch, from EMF Paisatge and promoter of the project La Vora de Girona; architect Josep Camps, from Camps Felip Arquitectura and technical collaborator on the project "Girona, Four Rivers and One Canal"; architect and landscape designer Ana Coello, from ACPA AnaCoello Landscape and Architecture, collaborator on the Special Plan for La Devesa; and architect and landscape designer Clara Jiménez from Girona City Council.

Among the various events, the exhibition "Girona 2,100 Years: 21 Objects for 21 Centuries" stands out. It is a thematic itinerary with cultural and social content about the city based on 21 outstanding objects of Girona origin from all historical periods. It will be one of the key proposals of the programme and can be visited from 31 October 2026 to 31 December 2027 at the Girona History Museum and the Museum of Jewish History.

Finally, the programme concludes with the "Bimillenary of Girona" congress, which over three days, from 25 to 27 November, will bring together history specialists to deepen knowledge about Roman heritage and the role of cities in the ancient world. The initiative also includes other exhibitions, debate activities and lecture series such as "The Foundation of Girona. 2,100 Years of History", which offers a journey through the different historical stages of the city. Specifically, a series of five talks will take place between 23 September and 21 October at the "La Caixa" Foundation Space in Girona, during which the urban, architectural and artistic transformations that have shaped Girona's identity will be analysed. The cultural project "Girona, Year 2100. Girona, 2,100 Years" aims to commemorate the 2,100th anniversary of the founding of Roman Girona (by Gnaeus Pompey Magnus in 76 BC), a historical milestone of great significance for the city.
