Editorial news: the exhibition catalogue "Grey, Blue and Green Girona. Urban Plans and Projects, 1950-2050" is now available

Friday, May 29, 2026

The volume includes texts by Manel Bosch, Juli Esteban, and Nadia Fava.

Like the exhibition of the same name, currently on view at Casa Masó, the book is structured into three sections. The first presents the planning schemes that have shaped Girona's urban space, within a period extending from the demolition of the city walls to the present-day city. Architect Juli Esteban Noguera identifies four major chronological phases in relation to the plans that have been decisive in the formation and evolution of Girona's urban area: the city's expansion (1897-1955), supramunicipal urban plans (1955-1987), municipal urban plans (from 1987 onwards), and the new territorial and urban master planning framework (from 2010 onwards).

In the second section, "Grey, Blue and Green Girona!", Manel Bosch examines the principal plans and projects that have shaped the city's open spaces and its immediate surroundings. His focus centres on how spaces such as the banks of the Ter River, La Devesa, the Onyar and Galligants rivers, the Archaeological Promenade, Les Pedreres, the Casernes and Parc del Migdia, and Parc Central Rafael Masó have been treated. He also introduces projects that have not yet moved beyond the drawing board: "Girona, Four Rivers and a Canal" and "La Vora".

"Girona Looking Towards the Future" is the third space for reflection proposed by Nadia Fava. In a highly thought-provoking text, she draws attention to the complexity of the city's urban future, which cannot be separated from its social, economic, and environmental dimensions, and especially from the ways in which we are able to confront them.

"Grey, Blue and Green Girona. Urban Plans and Projects, 1950-2050" is a richly illustrated 160-page volume available for purchase at the Casa Masó shop and through this website, in the Publications section (€16). Published by Úrsula Llibres in collaboration with the Fundació Rafael Masó.
