The Architect's SuitcaseAn Educational Visit of Casa Masó

This visit is based around the architect's work and cultural background. In a suitcase there are various key materials to help us understand and identify his work. An in-depth analysis of architecture as a style as well as in the creation of spaces in which we live.

The activity is complemented by a visit to Masó's preserved buildings in Girona to learn about the heritage value of the architect's work.

Casa Masó's characteristics, particularly its small size, make it necessary for the visits to be organised into small groups of a few students. This encourages a sense of proximity with the students and ensures that the explanations are heard perfectly by everyone. Because of this, more educational professionals are required to accompany the group and avoid a significant increase in the price of the visit, the teachers are often asked to actively participate in one part of the visit. This collaboration, which involves a tour of other houses near Casa Masó designed by Rafael Masó, with the educational material prepared by our Educational Service, is beneficial in helping the students to complete some work before or after the tour in the classroom, thus gaining a more complete knowledge of the architect's work.

Objectives

• To present Rafael Masó as an architect: the years of study, the research into style and the creative process.
• To learn about the main characteristics of Rafael Masó's architecture.
• To present some of Rafael Masó's collaborators, artisans in ceramic and iron work, which form part of the overall characteristic style of his architecture.
• To learn the basics of architectural analysis.

Practical Information

• Duration: between one hour and 30 minutes and three hours, depending whether a complementary workshop is included in the booking.
• Price of the tour of the house + the Masó Route: groups of up to 30 students, €120; groups of between 30 and 60 students, €240.
