The exhibition includes engravings, archaeological remains, ceramic articles, photographs, drawings, maps and other documents which, for the first time, illustrate the history of the restoration of this building in detail, allowing visitors to see how from its outset it became an icon of Girona.
The restoration of the Turkish Baths in Girona was promoted by Josep Puig i Cadafalch and carried out by Rafael Masó, two architects who were passionate about the recovery of Catalan historical heritage. Hidden since the 17th century inside a convent, the baths had already aroused interest among travellers and scholars. However, it wasn’t until 1914, in his study of the baths, that Puig i Cadafalch confirmed their origin and promoted their restoration, to be carried out by Rafael Masó, Jeroni Martorell and Emili Blanch. This exhibition and the catalogue, and all the events for the celebration of the year commemorating Puig i Cadafalch in Girona, have been made possible thanks to the support of Girona City Council, the Regional Cultural Services of the Catalan Government, Girona Provincial Council, Girona Regional Council and the Rafael Masó Foundation.
