In February 1911, an almanac was published in Barcelona, with some delay, in which each month's calendar was accompanied by a prose text and a poem, by different writers, and by the reproduction of a work of art, from different artists. It was Almanach de los Noucentistes, published by the printer Joaquim Horta in an edition of only 150 copies. However, everything indicates that the true promoter was the philosopher Eugeni d'Ors, who for some years had been leading the intellectual struggle to define and unite the artistic, cultural and political movement of the nineteenth century, the new century, which would mark Catalan culture from the time and one hundred and ten years later continues to raise questions about noucentisme, that movement with such broad consequences for the culture of the country.
The exhibition has brought together works by most of the artists who collaborated in Almanach, that is, some of the most representative painters and sculptors who worked in Catalonia during the first decades of the 20th century: Ricard Canals, Josep Obiols, Pablo Gargallo Josep Aragay, Isidre Nonell, Ismael Smith, Joaquim Torres-García, Josep Clará, Pere Torné-Esquius, Pablo Picasso, Prudenci Bertrana, Joan Borrell y Nicolau, and Joaquim Sunyer.
Exhibition curated by Aleix Catasús and Bernat Puigdollers.
